Auto Sync On Off
If you’re using iTunes for managing the media across all your iOS devices, you’ve probably been irritated due to the fact that the software starts syncing media immediately after you connect the device to your computer. Well, we’ve all been there, and it takes a whole lot of time to complete, especially if you have plenty of content. Most of us prefer to do the syncing process at our discretion rather than letting iTunes do it for us automatically. However, there’s a way to disable this Auto-Sync feature in iTunes. Once it’s done, you just have to click on the Sync button to manually transfer content at your will.
Well, if you’re keen on disabling this feature, let’s take a look at how to turn off auto sync in iTunes: Turning Off Auto Sync in iTunes. Note: I’ve managed to disable auto sync in the latest stable version of iTunes for Windows (12.6.2) to prevent my iPhone 7 Plus from automatically transferring and receiving content. Even if you’re using iTunes on Mac, the procedure is pretty much the same for both the operating systems.First of all, connect your iOS device to your computer which has a recent version of iTunes installed, and simply follow the steps below to disable the auto sync feature in a jiffy:. Once you’ve connected your iOS device, you’ll notice a device icon right below the top menu on iTunes. Simply click on the device icon and move on to the next menu. Here, under the options section located on the right pane, un-check the box right next to “Automatically sync when this iPhone (or iPod or iPad) is connected”. Now, click on “Done” located at the top-right corner to save your settings.
If you want to manually sync your iTunes, you can easily do that by clicking the Sync button right next to it. Now head over to Edit - Preferences located in the top menu, to disable the auto sync feature.

You can also use the shortcut key “Ctrl +,” to easily get into iTunes preferences. Now, a tiny window will pop-up on your screen that displays all the iTunes preferences that you can customize. Here, go to the Devices section and check the box right next to “Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically”. When you’re done with this, simply click on OK to save your preferences.Well, that’s pretty much all you got to do, in order to stop iTunes from automatically syncing your media across all your iOS devices.SEE ALSO: Disable iTunes Auto Sync With EaseIf you were a person like me who always used to get irritated whenever iTunes started the syncing process as soon as the device was connected to a computer for some other reason, we’re glad that we could help you get out of such a situation. Sure, some of you might enjoy using this feature that keeps everything updated by just connecting to your device, but personally, I’d like to do this at my own will.
Well, have you guys successfully managed to disable auto sync in iTunes? Do let us know, in the comments section down below.
Basically if I turn Auto-Sync on what does that do? Is it just another word for update? If I turn it off will the phone still give me FB, twitter and email notifications?
When I turn it off the weather doesn't update at all. I guess I just need an understanding of what it does when it's on or off. I know that when it's off my battery lasts so much longer but I still want all those notifications. Also I was wondering if someone could tell me why when I sync my FB contacts and I text someone their phone number shows up in the actual text next to their name.Ex. Megan (+555-555-555)(text message). Basically if I turn Auto-Sync on what does that do?

You may see all accounts on your phone by visiting Settings Accounts and SyncThe Sync part of Android syncs things such as Documents, Contacts, and other things to services such as Facebook, Google, Ubuntu One.When the device 'syncs', it syncs the data from your phone onto the service's servers. That way if you switch phones, if your new phone would have Syncing capability, you could retrieve your contacts and documents back to the phone.
The syncing part of Android is also simplistic in a way too. Just add the account, turn on Auto Sync, and your done. The 'Auto Sync' feature can be changed from Settings Accounts and Sync.
Auto Sync On Or Off
That setting basically means that it will sync your device with the service's servers. If you turn Auto Sync OFF, you will have to go into Settings Accounts and Sync and Sync the Accounts manually by tapping on them and tapping the menu key and selecting Sync Now.
This feature is good for those with limited data or restricted data on their Wireless Service Plan. I recommend keeping this option on when you have Unlimited Data that way your device will always be syncronized with the server's.As far as the question for Facebook, Android always does that. It pulls up the name of the contact followed by the number. Not just from Facebook.Hope it helped.Tap that LIKE and THANKS button below if I helped you out, please. I agree completely with Don Carter and I find ChromeJob's reply disrespectful and quite arrogant. Stryker asked ' if I turn Auto-Sync on what does that do?
Is it just another word for update? 'He wants to know what sync means. In common with many, many 'experts' I've come across on tech sites, the reply ignored the essence of the question and imparted information which while clear to someone already 'in the know' means nothing to someone not part of the club. The problem techy people often have is that is that they know lots about tech but don't seem to know how to communicate with others. Another great, first post. Welcome to the forums.,: I am admittedly, at times, arrogant and less tolerant of behavior that doesn't make sense to me. In this thread and others, where there was a question, I believe I generally provide a helpful or sufficient answer.
But where a post is primarily negative (criticizing others, snarking about previous posts, deriding the topic), I may provide a comment that's less help and more fight fire with fire. Well gee willikers, I had the same question. From the TechTerms website: 'Sync' is short for synchronize. When you sync a device, such as a cell phone, PDA, or iPod, you synchronize it with data on your computer. This is typically done by connecting the device to your computer via a USB or wireless Bluetooth connection. For example, you might sync the address book stored on your computer with your cell phone to update the contacts.
If you have an iPod, you may connect it to your computer to sync songs, videos, and other data using Apple iTunes. When you sync a device with your computer, it typically updates both device and the computer with the most recent information. This is also referred to as 'merging' the data. For example, if you have added a phone number to your phone since the last time you synced it with your computer, that number will be added to your computer's address book. Similarly, any numbers entered into the computer's address book since the last sync will be added to the phone. Most syncing programs also remove entries that have been deleted on either the device or the computer since the last sync.As a newbie to smartphones (and yes, this is my first post too), the 'typically done' makes me nervous. It's not a given.
So is Samsung Galaxy S3 'typical?' I accidentally deleted many entries on my google calendar, but my Samsung still (thankfully) has the entries. Since the word 'typical' was used in defining 'sync', I want to make sure when I 'sync' that google transfers to my Samsung. In other words, I want to make sure my Samsung updates Google with my Samsung entries. Essentially I want to make sure they will merge; entries on samsung will transport to google. So please don't be harsh.
I think this is a reasonable question to have been posed. I googled how to sync on Android and this website is the one that would seem to be the most helpful.
Thanks.and 'please be patient, God isn't finished with me yet.' Another great, first post. I wanted to understand more about Sync, in re my Nexus device and my Firefox account on my desktop.I don't sync anything, because I think that I'm giving up more privacy. I especially don't want to share more with Google (on tablet) than they already have.On tablet, am I missing the whole point of sync?
Am I right or wrong having privacy concerns?I also get strange results using Gmail, which is not synced. I don't use Gmail, because I only opened the account in order to take advantage of the basic functions of a Nexus tablet. (Even online, Gmail is a lousy email platform, so it would never be my preferred personal email preference.Coming from a music background, for me, the concept of sync is easy to grasp. So I agree with the person who explained how NOT to define a word. I also understand the frustration of far more technical people, so I try to learn how to ask a specific question. Sometimes I fail.I think that I have asked simple enough questions.
Also, you should know that in seeking information about 'sync,' this is one of the first hits using my search engines. If I get a response, and since I can't read anymore - if it's silly not to use sync, did people say yes to auto sync (to save battery) but to lessen the frequency?Thank you.
