First, I want to apologize if this isn't the correct area.
I wasn't sure how integrated laptop components like the keyboard fit into the categories provided.Anyway, on with the problem.Last night I ended up with those stupid System Security 2012 and Privacy Protection malware. So this morning I was able to remove them following instructions here (and they both appear to be totally gone now), but in the middle of the removal the touchpad stopped working.

Hp Laptop Touchpad Not Working Windows 10
I also noticed at the time that the keyboard and those touch button 'Quick Play' controls along the top (media player controls and volume controls) all no longer work). I can plug in a USB mouse and it works fine, as does a USB keyboard.I have tried the infamous battery trick (pop the battery out, discharge the power, wait 15-30 seconds, put the battery back), and I have tried to use the HP Recovery tool to restore the factory touchpad drivers to no avail. Are there any other possibilities to fix this? Or is it just possible that my keyboard/touchpad are fried? The laptop is like 5-6 years old and got heavy usage so it wouldn't surprise me if it's starting to experience hardware failures. It's just the suddenness and completeness of the failure combined with the timing (during the removal of those bits of malware which also were preventing me from doing other things like accessing programs and removed my start menu shortcuts)thanks in advance.EDIT: Wanted to note that I did find a USB keyboard to test and it does work. I'm also rerunning my anti-virus/anti-malware programs one more time just to see if there's any lingering problems missed in my first round of repairs.
I will update again if that changes anything.Edited by The Nemesis, 06 November 2011 - 07:34 PM. Keyboard drivers are generic. If it was a Generic Keyboard then you could use driver from Microsoft (generic).
If the keyboard was not generic then it will need a driver to activate some feature / button that come with that keyboard.Where can I find the keyboard drivers? I was able to find my touchpad drivers from the HP website but I don't know where to get the keyboard drivers. The keyboard has those multimedia touch controls for things like opening the HP media player, play/pause, forward/next, volume control, etc.You need to download and install HP Quick Launch Buttons.
